How can you know if you have gallstones?

Ultrasound. The most commonly used method to detect gallstones is with an abdominal ultrasound. The indication for testing are symptoms such as post-eating abdominal pain (often in the right upper quadrant or mid abdomen, sometimes going to the back), nausea. Occasionally, patients are found to have them incidentally on x-ray. There are other tests, but more costly and inconvenient.
