In brief: OK but not essential
Assuming this is a relatively clean cut, the best thing to do is wash it 2-3 times/day with soap and water, apply a little Bacitracin ointment to keep it moist and cover with a band-aid.
If it is too big, bleeds too much, is dirty, or is on a cosmetically sensitive area, you should have it evaluated by your doctor. Good luck!

I would suggest letting the cut be exposed to air a bit because prolonged use of bandaids can macerate the skin, i.e..like being in a bathtub too long and getting wrinkly skin.

In brief: Water
The best thing to do with a fresh cut is to flush it as best as possible with fresh water to clean it out.
Then clean it with soap and water. Thereafter wash it about three times a day and apply simple Bacitracin ointment until healed. If there are any signs of increasing redness, warmth, pain or pus or you are getting a fever it is infected and you need dr. Care. Remember the flush!
