Flakey ears in winter. Is it shampoo or disease?

Probably seborrhea. Flaky skin around the ears is usually caused by a condition called seborrhea that is inherited in many cases but occasionally acquired. It occurs more often in those with immune deficiency (you should get an HIV test). Your doctor or dermatologist can help you with treatment. To start, you should scrub the area with selenium sulfide (e.g. Selsun) shampoo to remove all the flakes daily.
