There are some small studies favoring the use of chicken soup during colds.
No body knows what exactly is helpful, the fluids from the soup, the warm temperature, the salt it contains, or the protein from the chicken. Somehow in conjunction it supports the immune system during an infection. I think you can extrapolate the benefits to pulmonary infections ( at least bronchitis. Pneumonia need more.
