What would cause pins and needles down your left arm every so often?

A number of things. Could be radiculopathy (pinched nerve at the neck) or something as simple as carpal tunnel syndrome. The best way to know is emg/nerve conduction studies. Ask your doctor which tests should be performed.

I'm a 38 year old male and I have a pain radiating down my left arm and it feels like a pinched nerve. I also get pins and needles in this arm daicthis?

Radiculopathy. Pain, numbness, and/or tingling that radiates down your arm may be an indication that a nerve arising from your neck (cervical spine) is being compressed or irritated. This may result in a condition called cervical radiculopathy. However, nerves that become pinched in your arms (peripheral neuropathy) can also mimic these symptoms. I would consult with a local physician for a formal evaluation. Read more...
Yes, pinched nerve. Yes, sounds like a classic pinched nerve aka radiculopathy. It will usually resolve on its own, but mechanical cervical traction in physical therapy can help greatly. If pain is severe and/or disabling, then a cervical epidural steroid injection would help. Read more...

My wife is saying that her left arm and left leg going numb, like pins and needles is this cause for worry?

Rule out stroke. Worst case scenario: it could be a stroke. Good news: if it is a stroke, and you get her to the ER in time, we may be able to actually do something to optimize chances for complete recovery. This depends on the type of stroke, and how quickly she gets seen by a physician. It may not be a stroke at all. It coud be a migraine or TIA. In any case she needs to be seen. Best wishes to you and her. Read more...
Maybe. See doc. If this is an acute problem and she has never had it before she should have it evaluated urgently for stroke. However if her symptoms have been present for more than a few days and are not progressing, she should see her doc within a week or so. Read more...

Could also be a pinched sensory nerve, and there are other causes. If it is shingles, the sooner you start on treatment (valtrex, famvir, (famciclovir) etc.) the sooner you will have relief, so see your doctor asap. Read more...
