Infection on an open wound. Staph?

Have to culture. An infection arises when bacteria (most often) or fungus overwhelm the body's ability to control it. An open wound is not always infected but can be holding bacteria (colonized). The organism is identified through deep culture of the wound.
Wound infection bugs. That depends. The most common organisms to infect open wounds are staphylococcus and streptococcus. If the wound is traumatic and dirty it could be any soil born organism including tetanus. If you are diabetic and especially if it is below the waist, it could be gram negative organisms. If it looks bad, best to have it examined and cultured...Off to mecosta hospital you need to go!
