Can you brush your teeth and then use mouthwash or do you use mouthwash and then use toothpaste?

In brief: Finish with rinse

There are different types of mouth rinse: Fluoride rinse to help teeth resistant to tooth decay; antiseptic rinse to decrease over all bacteria.
Either way, brush ; floss your teeth first to remove all films (called biofilms) of bacteria so that rinsing agents will be more directly applied to tooth/gum surface for a higher, better efficacy. Exception is post-surgery rinse when you are not to brush.

In brief: Floss,first

Then brush to listen all the plaque from between as a well as front and back surfaces, now you can rinse to flush out everything.

In brief: Brush then rinse

Either is fine, but i would probably recommend brush first, then rinse since the brushing disturbs the bacterial plaque the most, then the rinsing can flush out the loose plaque, bacteria
