In brief: See a doctor

Popping can be caused by many things.
Some people are just prone to popping and it is normal for them. A torn cartilage can cause popping. If a knee injury is not completely healed and the knee remains a little swollen, the extra fluid will cause it to pop with range of motion, just like a finger joint. If it is painless i would ignore it. If it hurts you should have it checked out.
