Can there be a connection between oral sex and a swollen salivary gland...? Could i get it from a girl...? Dental surgeon had no idea of the swelling.

In brief: YES!

There is more evidence linking the transmission of hpv (human papaloma virus) via oral sex route.
Hpv has been implicated in the recent increase of all forms of oral cancer. Please seek further advise from other dentists/oral surgeons/cancer specialists for your situation. In brief: Possible

The bacteria that normally inhabit a woman's vagina is vastly different from the bacteria that live in our oral cavity.
Exposure to it in an active activity such as oral sex could lead to an infection, which could lead to a swollen and possibly infected salivary gland. If your dentist is unsure of antibiotic treatment, then try checking with an urologist about antibiotics such as cipro, (ciprofloxacin) et.

In brief: Swollen gland

It could very be that it can.
Hpv virus is no joke and you don't want to mess around with a wait and see in many instances like this. Although it could be something as benign as sore tongue muscle from over manipulation better to be safe than sorry when it comes to situations like this.
