In brief: Erupting 3rd molar

You are teething.
The question is if there is room for this wisdom tooth to erupt and be just another tooth you have to brush. If not, then have it removed. Yes, as it comes through the gums there is a chance of infection. Aftefr all, the tooth is pushing and maybe tearing the gum. Then you spit on the wound and eat things. Get it checked by your dentist to see if there is room for it.

In brief: Recommended

When a wisdom tooth is impacted, or growing in it may need to be removed.
If it is not removed, you may develop gum tenderness, swelling, or even severe pain. Each patient's situation is individual. Your dentist will usually take a panoramic X-ray to determine whether your wisdom teeth will need to be removed. Call your dentist ASAP.

In brief: Possibly...

Certainly there may be an infection.
A visit with a dentist can confirm this; then an antibiotic can be prescribed. Extraction may be recommended once the possible infection is resolved.

In brief: May be

Your wisdom tooth is trying to come out, the pain could be just a sign of inflammation and irritation of the gums opening, it is not necessarily an infection.
Regardless you should seek professional advice to get proper diagnosis, x-rays and appropriate treatment, that may include pain killers, antibiotics, etc...And even removal of the wisdom teeth. Stay well, dr mokbel, scdentalimplants.Com.
