A 59 year old woman has undergone a left radical mastectomy, what does this indicate?

In brief: Old Surgeon

Radical mastectomies are not typically performed any longer. They add removal of the large chest wall muscles to that of the breast and axillary lymph nodes.
More common is the modified radical mastectomy = removal of breast and axillary lymph nodes on the same side of the breast. (no muscle is removed).
