Is it bad to take birth control on and off? Keep forgetting to take daily. Can oral birth control cause you to retain water?

In brief: Do U want it to work

The pill works basically by preventing egg release.
No egg=no chance at conception. To do that the pill should be taken as prescribed to maintain the hormone levels that prevent egg release. Skip pills=hormone level falls=you might get pregnant. If you pair taking the pill with something you do every day you may not forget. If you can't, use something else or plan to be a mom soon.

In brief: Pregnancy

It's not bad in that it would cause harm. On the other hand if you are forgetting pills then it wont do its job and prevent an unplanned pregnancy and is likely to trigger irregular menstrual bleeding.
Perhaps the pill is not the best choice for you. Consider an iud or another method that requires less remembering.
