Why are so many of my tech friends obsessed with measuring everything they do and wearing the latest devices? Are they hypochondriacs?

In brief: Do you mean OCD
Unless your friends behavior strongly affects thier lives so as to be disruptive, then you really can't call it an illness.
People who gravitate toward technology tend to be more detail oriented than others, which is a good thing because tech requires precision. Remember the carpenter addage...Measure twice, cut once. A little obsessiveness in tech can be good.

It is probably a HiTech fashion trend, times will change, so will they.

be striving for improved health - that does not make them hypochondriacs.
