In brief: Panic
Self-talk (what if), relaxation, breathing exercises, meditation, imagery.
Keep in mind that panic attacks do not kill anybody.

In brief: See doctor
Most true panic attacks resolve on their own within a few minutes.
It may help to breathe into a paper bag to prevent hyperventilation and dizziness. However, there are medical conditions that may cause symptoms similar to those of panic attacks, like hyperthyroidism or heart arrythmias. They may even be a side effect of another medication. See your doctor to be evaluated and receive treatment.

In brief: Professional help
You should have a psychiatrist determine the triggers or causes of your panic attacks and suggest the best course of medication and/or psychotherapy treatments.
It is important not to hyperventilate during an attack and for that reason some people suggest breathing into a paper bag so that you dont loose too much carbon dioxide from your lungs.
