In brief: The defintition

Ibs is a funtional gastrointestinal disorder chracterized by some pain/cramping, altered bowel habits in the absence of specific/unique organic pathology/disease.
Other symptoms common to ibs include bloating, gasiness, frequent/urge to have bm, early satiety, dyspepsia symptoms etc... Often = nuisances, but can be debilitating at times.. If u r concerned, consult doc.. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your trouble for so long...unfortunately, this can be debilitating for some and treatment can be difficult. I have quite a few patients suffering from this illness, but fortunately most are doing fairly well. I wish you luck..

In brief: Bowel disorder

Irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) is a condition where the intestinal tract is "sensative" to certain foods or other environmental factors (such as stress) and causes the intestinal tract to exhibit certain symptoms.
These symptoms include diarrhea, constipation, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, and others. See your family doctor to make sure other conditions are not causing these symptoms.

In brief: Multifactorial cause

Irritable bowel syndrome is the multifactorial consequence of hormonal, immune system and nervous system dysfunction resulting from genetic predispositions and dietary and environmental insults.
The predominant symptoms like diarrhea cramps constipation are the result of autonomic nervous system instability. Pts like you may benefit from a metabolically directed approach check out mdwellnessmd.Com.
