In brief: See OFP specialist

Orofacial pain specialists are experts in TMJ and TN disorders.
They are trained two years longer than a general dentist in CODA approved universities (e.g. UCLA, USC, etc) and you will be getting the most accurate diagnosis and conservative treatment. Rec.: schedule an appointment ASAP to prevent future complications. Here is the link for more information: http://www.aaop.org/

In brief: Dental evaluation

Even though both are facial problems that can be painful, they are unrelated.
Trigeminal neuralgia is a sharp, intense style pain of very short duration(seconds) caused by trigger points being touched. Tmjd is a painful condition caused by the dislocation of a meniscus (cartilage) in the joint itself, that can actually block the movement of your jaw from opening and/or closing. Diagnosis decides tx.
