In brief: Very common
Staph can be grown on anyone's skin.
Infection occurs when the bacteria takes over. It can start with a scratch or pimple, a hangnail, ear infection, sore throat or sinus infection to name a few. Staph is not usually serious, a poor immune system, resistant bacteria or bad location can make it serious but most infections can be easily treated.
