However, the jaw muscles may go into spasm, causing pain and limited opening, which can also cause the jaw to deviate to one side while opening. It could also represent a displaced disc inside the jaw joint, or TMJ (temporomandibular joint). Try a soft diet, moist heat and nsaid's like Ibuprofen or naproxen. If it persists, see a specialist.
