In brief: Evaluation in order

It would be good to have your suspicion of a mild depression evaluated first.
If you do have a major depression that is mild, psychotherapy can be just as good as medication treatment. If you choose the medication route and if you have not taken an antidepressant before, the ssri class is a prudent start.

In brief: You might not even

need a psychaitric drug if depression is mild.
Talking therapy ranks really high. Cognitive Behavioral therapy or psychotherapy can be effective. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night & good nutrition w 5 servings of veggies & 4 of fruit per day. Try tai chi, yoga, Qi Gong, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing exercises & meditation. Don't isolate - spend time w friends .
