In brief: Old debate

Iq is a combination of the inherited potential capacity combined with the proper environment to nurture that capacity.
You cannot control the inheritance but you can optimize the nurture aspect with diet, constant use of brain stimulating factors such as lifelong learning, reading, puzzle performance, learning a foreign language and so on.

In brief: Nature vs. Nuture

What a controversy? It is generally accepted today that nurture, or environment, affects iq more than genetics, but one cannot rule out genetic influences in order to be "politically correct.
