In brief: Yes
Diabetics are at increased risk for pregnancy complications including (and most concerningly) intrauterine fetal demise.
The current recommendations are for delivery for diabetic women by their due date. Very few knowledgeable obstetricians will be comfortable with observation beyond 40 weeks because of the significantly increased risk of fetal and maternal complications.

Furthermore, in a type I diabetic, most would recommend delivery BEFORE 40 wks.

I agree. Most would recommend delivery between 38-39 due to the elevated risk of stillbirth even in a well controlled diabetic.

In brief: Not the proper forum
That question is not safe or wise to answer in this setting.
The decision to induce or not needs to be made between the patient and her health care provider whether the pregnancy is high risk or not. Each case needs to be individualized, with pros and cons discussed, understood, and agreed upon by all parties involved.
