In brief: Majority do

Most patients with type 1 neurofibromatosis have mild involvement and live relatively normal lives.
Patients with severe involvement can have deformity of bones and large amount of overgrowth of tumors. If severe in infant or young child sometimes can be fatal.

In brief: Possibly

A better question is whether a person with nf-1 or -2 can lead a normal life? The answer is yes.
Certainly, there are neurofibromas or brain tumors that may occur and deviate the person from "normalcy" , but many of these can be dealt with using neurosurgery or radiation. The patients are fully capable of then continuing with a normal life with normal interactions with others.
