I get migraine headaches 5x/week and take Imitrex (sumatriptan) for it. Are there short / long term risks?

In brief: OVER USING IMITREX (sumatriptan)

Serious side effects include heart arrhythmia (irregular heart beat)/palpitation, and rare heart attack especially older folks with risks.
Being male at 61, it is a bit risky. Using 5x/wk is excessive. There are daily meds to help prevent migraine attacks and so i suggest consulting doc for eval and treatment. Since you are taking med 5x/wk for severe headaches, why not daily to stop it? Good luck.

In brief: Migraines

If your migraines are so frequent, you should be reevaluated by a neurologist and maybe get your medication changed.

In brief: Migraine headaches

You should talk to your physician about the doseage, interactions and side effects of imitrex (sumatriptan).
Imitrex is used to treat migraines after they have started. However, they do not prevent migraines. You might want to check with your dentist to evaluate you for tmj/tmd disorder. Chronic grinding and/or clenching the teeth is the cause of headaches ; migraines in many patients.

In brief: Too much imitrex (sumatriptan)

You are over the maximum dose of imitrex (sumatriptan).
If you are having that many migraines you should be started on a preventative medication, see your doctor.
