In brief: No

A lot of times acute pancreatitis is treated by pancreatic rest with fasting.
Usually chronic pancreatitis is not treated this way. A low fat diet is recommended as is abstaining from alcohol (even if alcohol is not the reason for your pancreatitis). Treating the reason behind the pancreatitis and in select cases surgery or other procedures.

That would just make the malnutrition caused by chronic pancreatitis worse.
Chr pancreatitis usually from alcohol; can be painful, can cause diabetes, malabsorption of nutrients, especially fats, fat solvits (a, d, e, k), proteins, carbs, wt loss, osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease. Rx pancreatic supplements, pain relief, sometimes surgery. Acute: rx'd w/bowel rest, supportive care, sometimes surg.
