Because viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) acts in 2 ways on serotonin. Ssri plus buspar why is it so stimulating?

Buspar (buspirone) is an agonist. Buspar (buspirone) is known as an agonist on 5-HT1A and therefore a direct anxiety anxiety relief. There are 11 HT receptors, and only this one directly affected by Buspar (buspirone). Read more...
Brains are sensitive. You are correct, the drug Viibyrd (vilazodone) is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (like Prozac/Lexapro) which results in more serotonin available for the brain to use. Buspar (buspirone) is usually used for anxiety. In some, these two serotonin effects are too much/overstimulating. This effect would be highly individual and would not occur in all taking both drugs. Been reading that viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) most resembles the ssri Paxil plus buspar...Is this correct?

Almost. It's mechanism of action is that of an ssri which i would characterize more to be like zoloft (sertraline) in effect and the action of buspirone. However, it does not have the indication for the treatment of any anxiety disorder and the studies have not been done yet to see whether it has a generalized anxiety benefit or not. Best wishes. Viibryd. is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) & 5HT1A receptor partial agonist. It has an FDA indication for treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Paxil is SSRI & it has FDA indications for tx of MDD, Panic D/O, Obsessive Compulsive D/O, PTSD, Generalized Anxiety D/O & Social Anxiety D/O. I don't necessarily agree that Paxil +Buspar are most like Viibryd. Read more...

Is brintellix the same as taking Buspar plus an ssri? I want to stay away from Buspar if possible. Same question regarding viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride).

No. Brintellix is a new antidepressant which prevents the reupatake of Serotonin like the SSRIs however its exact mechanism of work is still unknown. It works on some receptors but the benefits is still unknown. Buspar is an ti -anxiety medication. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is another newer SSRI. Buspar is often used to augment or boost an anti-depressant. Read more...

Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) listed in revised pill book under warning-should not use because may cause abnormal heart rythym-is this more prevelant than other ssri's?

Pill book wrong. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) has not been associated with any clinically significant effect on vital signs, including systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate, as measured in placebo-controlled studies. Results from a 52-week open-lab study.Cardiac disorders: infrequent: ventricular extrasystoles, palpitations occurred in 2% of people on 40 mg of viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) today compared to less than 1% on placebo. All of this would be considered a very safe cardiac profile. I think your pill book is wrong.Data from pdr 2013. Read more...
That is strange. I agree with Dr. Jacobson. The only cardiac side effects that were listed on drugs.Com were palpitations (1% to 10%) & venticular extrasystoles (0.1% to 1%). I don't know why a pill book would warn not to use if for cardiac issues. Read more...

Why has viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) been a financial failure when all ssri type drugs are blockbusters?

Interesting.. Question and i can't really answer that, but most likely because of business reasons; that is, i don't think it was marketed that well and also it seems like insurance companies do not want to pay for it. I don't think it's because of how well it works. Read more...

Could viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) potentially help ocd...And is it the strongest ssri ti hit serotonin receptors because of its dual action?

Choices, choices. The options could really drive anyone mad - not to mention an ocd sufferer. Some like it, some don't. Here's an opinion. You can find a wide range - just as you can for the other meds. What fits you is what matters. A link: http://chipur.Com/2011/03/01/viibryd-a-new-antidepressant-but-anything-exciting/ best! Every snri/ssri I tried for severe GAD jas had bad side effects. I need something. Is brintellix or viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) good? Are they well tolerated?

Go another route. Your profile indicates that you are taking caffeine and an antidepressant for generalized anxiety disorder. I understand you have tried several serotonergic agents for generalized anxiety. It may be time to try something else. Caffeine of course can cause significant anxiety.
