In brief: GERD?
This could be a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd).
After you eat, stomach acid may back up, causing a tickle in the back of your throat and persistent coughing. This may cause lung irritation and asthma-like symptoms. Definitely worth getting checked out as untreated gerd can lead to serious problem! agree - plus other possibilities like esophageal spasm or recurrent aspiration.

In brief: Depends
If some liquid or food gets on to the voice box or accidentally into the trachea (wind pipe) it will lead to bad coughing.
This can occur in someone with unrecognized reflux into the throat which can cause decreased sensation of the voice box and increase the risk of food going "the wrong way." an ENT physician can look at your voice box and perform or order a swallowing evaluation.
