Mood Disorder. Bipolar is a mood disorder with a history of one or more manic episodes. There is clearly depression and times when a person may have great difficulty sleeping, hallucinations or delusions, or impulsive behavior. Most people have times of full functioning and some episodes fof depressive or manic symptoms. Medication is very helpful in many patient.
Manic depressive . Is another name for bipolar. At least one episode of mania is required by definition and includes decreased need for sleep, elevated self esteem, and sometimes grandiose delusions. Usually episodes of depression also occur with decreased sense of self worth and feelings of hopelessness which may include suicidal ideation. These episodes are usually separated by weeks, months, or even yearss.
