In brief: Glycosylated protein

Glycosylated hemoglobin A1c is a type of protein in your blood that is formed in the presence of sugar.
.Non-enzymatic glycation of the hemoglobin protien, thus higher sugar/glucose over time will cause higher level of hemoglobina1c. Docs order this test to assess the average/approximate level of sugar in blood over several months (3 or so), thus level of diabetes control. Consult doc.. Good luck.

In brief: A1c or HbA1c is

A test of blood glucose levels during the previous 3-4 months.
It is far less variable than daily blood glucose checks, which are affected easily by food, lack of food, no exercise, heavy exercise, infection, etc. It also more accurately depicts long-term control, especially in those who might follow the proper regimen just before seeing the doctor.

It is also a good way to measure compliance.

In brief: Diabetic measure.

The HgbA1C is a measure reflective of your degree of diabetic control in the long term. It essentially represents a three month average of your fingersticks, as if you took a fingerstick every minute, night and day, eating and fasting, for three months straight and then averaged them all.
Technically, it's the percentage of red blood cells that have glucose attached to them.
