What about taking Xanax (alprazolam) for panic disorder? Would that help?

In brief: Agreed
Dr neilson is quite correct about Xanax (alprazolam) in this setting.
It's rapid onset also leads to rapid offset, causing a "picket fence" cycle of panic, sedation, panic. For acute flare ups of panic/anxiety when other medications are involved, & with your doctor's help, Xanax (alprazolam) may have limited usefulness.

In brief: Better meds
Xanax (alprazolam) is short-acting and addictive.
...There are better, safer meds. It is sometimes effective, but only as a last resort....

Yes, along with Behavior therapy, since medications only control symptoms.
