Was wondering if you get cold sores does that mean you have genital herpes too?

In brief: Having a cold sore

(herpes simplex i) does not mean that you have genital herpes (herpes simplex ii).

In brief: Herpes

Nope. Not in any way.
There are two types of herpes. They are only truly diagnosed by a blood test. 75% of americans have the herpes type one virus (oral) and 25% of americans have the genital or 'herpes type two' virus. If you have type one before you are exposed to type two you can still get infected with herpes type two. If you get exposed to two first then you cannot get type one.
