As females get older the likelihood they will have a child with trisomies , such as down syndrome increases.
So, the younger the egg cells the lower the risk for down syndrome. There are tests that can be done during early pregnancy that would detect if fetus has down syndrome, and some couples choose to terminate pregnancy.
