In brief: Atrial fib

Atrial fibrillation rate is usually controlled by betablockers /or other meds, or conversion by electricity or medications.
Or other agents ask your doctor that if this is really the culprit.

In brief: Anxiety

From what you describe it sounds like anxiety disorder with panic attacks.
The fact that Ativan (lorazepam) works makes it even more likely.
