Can Effexor (venlafaxine) work well for helping with depression and do the side effects go away over time?

In brief: It depends...

Effexor (venlafaxine) works very well for some people, not so well for others, same as other antidepressants.
Some people have difficulty with side effects initially, especially nausea. Going very slowly up on the dose usually eliminates that problem although some people describe always having a slight feeling of nausea no matter what. As far as efficacy, getting to the right dose is essential.

In brief: Excellent antidepres

Is an excellent antidepressant. However, some of the side effects go away and some do not. The most persistent side effect is sweating. Another side effect that can occur at any time and is unlikely to go away is restless leg syndrome. If you ever stop it, it must be tapered slowly and the antidepressant discontinuation syndrome can be quite unpleasant. Work with your psychiatrist however and many of these side effects can be treated and prevented. Best wishes.
