What controls the menstrual cycle?

The ovary. You may not believe it but the ovary controls the cycle. The brain hormones are actually passive to the ovarian hormones. The physiology is complicated but if we were to give the same rain hormone pulses every hour then the ovary would control the pituitary hormones and ovulation would occur.
Hormonal changes. *decrease in Progesterone levels*start of menstrual bleed, & release of lh & fsh from pituitary*fsh cause growth of ovarian follicles* maturation of one female egg, the ovum.*release of estradiol, an estrogen*bleeding stops* Estradiol cause uterine growth& a lh increase, leading to release of the ovum into the fallopian tube* if no fertilization, release of Progesterone & thickening of uterus.
