Hi, I have extra piece of gum tissue behind my central incisor for years, it is hanging around my mouth and it is growing, is it harmful?

In brief: Not sure

Cannot tell you over the internet, sight unseen, if it is harmful.
It may be caused by inflammation due to a periodontal problem, could be more serious if you are a smoker. Your local dentist, who can actually examine it and treat you, is best prepared to put your mind at ease. Give him/her a call for an appointment.

In brief: YES

That tissue is not supposed to grow.
It should be removed and the are should be scaled and cleaned by a dentist.
