I have mitral valve prolapse and am severely depressed. I don't have health insurance, but I have been feeling so depressed. Is it due to mvp?

Doubt it. Mitral valve prolapse is a disorder of the mitral valve where the leaflets close abnormally. The majority of prolapse patients have no issues with their prolapse. It does increase the risk of developing mitral regurge in the future. It affects nearly 10% of people. Depression is also common at 3-5% of people. There are many more likely stressors leading to depression. There is no proven connection. Read more...

Is it a good idea to take flumist if I have a minor mvp (mitral valve prolapse)?

No problem... There is no danger of taking FluMist to this minor abnormality of your mitral valve. Flumist contains a live, weakened flu virus, so you should not take this form of the vaccine if you have a problem with your immune system. You should also avoid the flu vaccine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to eggs. Your heart should be just fine! Read more...
Yes. The mitral valve prolapse should not have any effect on the immunization. Similarly, the flutist is very unlikely to have any effect on the mitral valve. Read more...
Depends. In the 2017-18 flu season the protection rate from the flu mist is so bad that most centers do not recommend its use. Read more...

What if you have an inborn Mitral valve prolapse, then you have an anemia. It can be possible that having anemia is because of MVP?

MVP & anemea. MVP & anemea don't cause ea other, anemia has many types such as iron defeciency, aplastic, pernicious, anemia due to sepsis, hemolytic for example sickle cell anemia, thalassemias & other hemoglobinopathies, spherocytosis & so on, having anemea will most likely aggravate MVP symptoms. I hope that helps answer your question. Good luck. . Read more...
Unrelated. You become anemic if you are loosing blood or not making new cells as fast as the older ones wear out. Each red cell lasts 90-100 days in most and you must make 1-2%/day to keep up . A leaky valve has no effect on this process. Most anemia comes from lacking the proper nutrients to build new cells, primarily iron.General health and medical conditions contribute to this.Talk it over with your doc. Read more...

I have mitral valve prolapse. Also have dull left side chest ache off and on. Had 2 nuclear stress tests. Both negative. Is this symptomatic of mvp?

Prolapse . Mvp is not necessarily symptomatic. Your chest ache may well have a musculoskeletal or no cardiac cause. Read more...
Probably not. The symptoms of mitral valve prolapse are usually related to the valve being leaky - usually shortness of breath or palpitations. If you have leaky valve ( regurgitation) that is severe and for a long time, you can develop an irregular rhythm or high pressures in the lung. It is good to intervene before you develop symptoms, but only if you have severe regurgitation ( shown by an echocardiogram). Read more...

Can an enlarged heart due to htn and/or mitral valve prolapse heal itself & return to normal size? If so, how? I have both mvp & htn.

Not usually. MVP doesn't cause the heart to enlarge, but mitral regurgitation which accompanies MVP does and if it has, should be carefully evaluated for possible mitral valve repair with echocardiography. Be sure to keep your BP well controlled. Read more...
Not likely. Once the heart is enlarged from a long standing problem, it will not go back to normal architecture though it may well continue to function normally if the enlargement is not significant. Sometimes, when the enlargement happens rapidly due to an acute issue, the size can go back to normal. Read more...
