In brief: Unknown
Severe leg pain can be caused by many things.
Think about what's in there-blood vessels (disease can cause pain), muscles (rarely if ever a primary cause of pain), tendons and ligaments (can be torn in accident), joints (hip and knee can both cause pain), and nerves. In addition, damage to various structures in the back can cause leg pain. To find out, see doctor and get mri.

I agree. Have it evaluated by your physician to get the appropriate treatment.
Dr. Qamar Khan
Pain Management
In brief: Can be Both
Obviously to know for sure you will need an MRI of your spine/pelvis or even your leg depending on where the hamstring tore.
See a Pain Specialist that has sports medicine training to get the best treatment available. He/She should be able to perform an ultrasound guided and flouroscopic guided injections for either the spine or hamstring. If they don't have both look for another doctor.

Pain Management
In brief: Not enough info
Pain that radiates down your leg could be sciatic pain.
A hamstring pull would be more localized in your thigh.
