Heat stroke. Heat stroke is the medical term for the condition that follows and is more severe than heat exhaustion. Generally the temperature is 104 degrees or more in heat stroke. Untreated heat exhaustion may progress to heat stroke. Untreated heat stroke may progress to death.
Sun stroke. Heat exhaustion implies core body temp <104 f while heat stroke includes core temp >104 f. Heat stroke causes delirium or coma and can cause organ failure (kidney, liver, heart), muscle cell injury, and can cause death. Both make you feel bad (usually nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness) but heat exhaustion alone won't kill you.

The point of cooling the body in heat stroke is to bring CORE temperature back to about normal body temperature, which is 98.6 deg F plus or minus 2 degrees (or 35 to 37 deg C, approximately).
