Intermittent left side pain near belly button. I am day18 post op open umbilical hernia repair and gallbladder removal pain scale 8 neg fever or vomi?

May be normal... It is common to have intermittent pain following umbilical hernia repair, and this is mostly determined by the extent and type of repair. Patients often have intermittent shape or "pulling" sensation that may extend several inches to either side of the umbilicus for a few weeks after repair. Check with your surgeon to make sure there's no other issue.
Could be scar pain. If no other infectious symptoms/ could be scar healing/ adhesions/ constipation/ if worsening seek medical attention for obstruction/ try pain meds / prefer non narcotics.

Should see surgeon. A bruise should be improving by 20 days after surgery. You should see the surgeon if you haven't seen him or her recently so they can look at it. The black/blue/purple area could be the skin of and around the belly button that had its blood supply affected by the surgery. In rare cases, the surgeon may need a second procedure to revise this. Maybe not. I am assuming the repair was done open, not laparoscopically? The bumps may be related to the suture they used to sew the mesh into place, especially if you are skinny. That will eventually go away- although it may take months depending on the suture they used. There is always a chance of hernia recurrence, though. Read more...
