How to check for a stomach or colon cancer? Is the only sure way to get endoscopy?

In brief: Yes.
The only sure way is to get endoscopy.
Other tests like ct or x-rays with contrast (barium enema, upper gi) can sometimes see a tumor, but even then the scope will be your next test to to a biopsy. A scope is the way to go.

In brief: Endoscopy+biopsy
Definitive diagnosis of either colon or stomach cancer usually requires endoscopy and biopsy, followed by examination of the tissue by a pathologist.
