As a recovering alcoholic is it a good idea to date a drinker?

In brief: Hmmmm.

If you are in aa, this is a good question for your sponsor, if newly sober, less than a year, no, but really should not be dating then either. If you are very stable in your recovery and this person has no inclination of a drinking problem them self, then maybe.
Really need to be crystal clear on your motifs with this one. Concerns, could be trigger and trying to save other if they have a problem.

In brief: No, it's not

Depends on how long and stable your recovery is, but in general it's not a good idea.
Some people in recovery can be exposed to alcohol on a regular basis without a lot of temptation or increased craving - some even (like in the old tv show cheers) work as bartenders. But as i said, not a good idea in general. Ask your date if he or she would mind using non-alcoholic drinks during date.
