In brief: Detachment

I love the 12 step phrase - detachment which means we detach - distangle from creating opinions and use being supportive, not condone or judge.

In brief: I am not sure

An addict has urges they cannot control that often snuck up on them yes its true that they may have taken something recreationally (especially when younger) and/or volentarily but their reaction was profound and they may have had unrecognized vulnerabilities.
.Now we expect them to go on a lifetime diet and never cheat. Maybe you can do that- than you are a more disciplined person than most.
