My 5 yr son is under treatment with valproic acid due to febrile seizures. Dosage is 440mg/day and he weights 26kg. Is this dose correct?

In brief: Reasonable dose

This seems like a reasonable dose.
This is on the low end of the scale. However you can go quite a bit higher. Ultimately, you need to weigh the risk of the medicine versus the benefit of preventing seizures. Please be sure you follow up to your doctor.

In brief: Levels

We also usually obtain blood levels of valproic acid to make sure it's in the therapeutic range.
It will give us a good indication of how much room we have to change the dose.
