In brief: Dengue Fever

You can avoid travel to areas where Dengue is endemic.
Protect against mosquitoes wi permethrin applied to long pants, long sleeved shirts, shoes / socks & 10% DEET for skin. When in endemic areas avoid being out at dusk or dawn. Ensure that building has good screens on window & use bed netting. Remove sources of standing water near the house. As of this writing 6 vaccines are in development >

In brief: Prevention

There is no vaccine to prevent dengue fever.
The best way to prevent the disease is to prevent bites by infected mosquitoes.Stay away from heavily populated residential areas, if possible, use mosquito repellents, even indoors, when outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into socks, when indoors, use air conditioning if available, make sure window/door screens are free of holes.
