In brief: Try some things....

A bit of chronic mucus, presuming it is not thick saliva, may be caused by an irritant, most commonly first or second hand smoke, or air pollution, etc.
So firstly avoid any kind of irritating inhalants. If it is caused by a chronic inflammation in the nasal cavity (rhinitis) or sinuses, it can be a post-nasal drip. Try a nasal saline spray few times daily. Gp, or ENT doc should be able to help.
