In brief: Prescr. Strength

You will need prescription strength vitamin d.
Have your doctor prescribe it for you. It comes in doses of 50, 000 iu and your doctor can determine the regimen that is right for you.

1000 IU of vitamin D is not high enough to cure a vitamin D deficiency. Recommend 10,000 to 15,000 IU of vitamin D3 DAILY until blood test for vitamin D is optimum (between 50 to 80 ng/ml)

Thanks. In our area the docs are giving 50,000 IU once or twice a week until levels are higher. Have the guidelines changed?
