How does Lexapro (escitalopram) effect REM sleep? I started Lexapro (escitalopram) three weeks ago and recently i've been feeling one positive change (no racing thoughts at night) but i also feel i get a very shallow sleep.

In brief: Yes

Yes, ssri's do alter sleep, as serotonin directly involved in sleep.
If this does not improve, talk with your md about medication options.

In brief: Less deep sleep

Lexapro (escitalopram) as many antidepressants reduce the time you spend in deep (non rem) refreshing sleep.
The first thing to try is to move the Lexapro (escitalopram) dosing to the am. You also can ensure you start your sleep in a relaxed state (no bright lights like looking at tablets, phones); low light; hot shower. In addition you doctor has some safe non addicting medications that can increase deep rest full sleep.
