I agree with dr. Fowler -- and also, people can fall in love with others who are not available to them for relationships.
This can exacerbate depression. So can feeling attached to (or love-sick) with someone who treats you badly (lies to you, cheats on you, verbally abuses you, or beats you, etc). People with longstanding depression can feel they don't deserve any better than this. Very sad.
