In brief: 5 times/day or more
For our diabetic patients, we have them check their morning fasting, 1-hour post prandials (post meals), and at bedtime.
They keep a diary of their meals, chemstick results, Insulin doses, and any symptoms they may encounter. They also check any times they feel weak, shaky, or have any symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I hope that helps.
