In brief: Yes

Make sure you have food with you.
Especially something that can bring your sugar levels up quickly if they drop suddenly. You may not be able to get someone's attention as fast as you'd be able to reach in your bag and grab a hard candy or other item.

In brief: Absolutely

There is no guarantee of getting food on an airplane for a multitude of reasons.
There is also the question of whether the food is okay for you. To avoid high or low blood sugar situations, pack your own food. Remember the liquids rule of going through security.
